IMPHAL, June 4: The state home department has recently approved to detained an under trial prisoner who is a cadre of underground PLA identified as Oinam Tikendrajit Singh alias Naphan alias Bungo, 27 s/o O Tomchou Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel under National Security Act, 1980.According to an official source the approval of the state home department was made on the basis of the examination of the report, the detention order, grounds for detention and other relevant papers furnished by the District Magistrate, Imphal West District under Section 3(2) of the said Act.The official source also mentioned that, the constituted state Advisory Committee on NSA in its sitting on May 9 and May 12 last month had unanimously opined that there has been sufficient cause for detention of the said under trial under the NSA.The state home department, after serious consideration of the past activities of the detainee as an active member of the banned organization PLA and the potential of his activities which are prejudicial to the maintenance of public order and also the likelihood of his continuing in such activities the moment he is release from detention is further of the opinion that the said person should be detained for the maximum period of 12 months as provided under the NSA.The source also mentioned that, state home department in consonance with the opinion expressed by the constituted State Advisory Board and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 12 (1) of the said Act, the state home department has recently approved for the detention of the said PLA cadre under NSA.
