IMPHAL, June 27: A one day state level political conference under the theme “the Congress view on present situation” was held at the heart of Imphal Polo ground organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee this afternoon.
Speaking at the gathering chief guest Luizinho Faleiro, member of Congress Workers Committee (CWC) said, “Where there is peace, there is development, so Manipur need to marched towards peace and bring development”.
He further said that Manipur shares a good rapport with the centre as the Congress is in power both at the state and the centre, and the centre has already implemented 16 points of flagship programmes for the development of the society including both the rural and urban areas of the state.
The centre has been kind enough to provide various incentives to the state for development and as such there are many more developmental schemes and projects in the pipeline for the state.
Further addressing the public meeting, he maintained that India is shinning under the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh.
Under the able leadership of the two leaders, India has today become a well known power in the world, he added.
Further highlighting the UPA government’s achievement, he stated that India is now a force that other countries look up to in various sectors like sports, agriculture and various others.
Under the rule of the UPA government, the level of Indian agriculture has increased manifold with the various agricultural schemes introduced by the Congress led government.
Regarding corruption in the country, he maintained that the Congress government is much against it and will punished any individual found guilty as is evident from the 2G spectrum case.
He has further appealed to the people of the state to continue with their support for the party.
The state Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in his addressed to the public stated that Manipur is a mini India with various communities residing collectively in the state and it is the main duty of the SPF government to maintain peace and development of all communities residing in the state.
The Chief Minister further maintained that when he visited New Delhi with several projects and schemes for the state in 2002 when the NDA government was in power at the centre, the BJP led government sanctioned only about a quarter of his total demand which led to the failure of the state government to provide salaries of the state employees regularly.
He has further stated that the government is aiming to complete the Jiri-Tupul rail line by 2014 and that of the Tupul-Imphal by 2016 and as such he has appealed to the people of the state to maintain its support for the party so as to usher in more development to the state.
The conference was attended by the Luizinho Faleiro, member of Congress Workers Committee (CWC) (Permanant invitee) Manipur, Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh and MPCC president Gaikhangam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A booklet “Houjikki Phibam Congressna haijaningba” published by the Akhil Bharatya Congress Committee vol-1 was also released during the conference.
