IMPHAL, July 22: Center for Foreign Study and Placement has announced that it will be financially sponsoring two students belonging to BPL families, who had recently cracked the state PMT, in pursuing their medical studies.

Chairperson of the centre Dr. Th Suresh announced that his organization will bear 50% of the aggregated course fees of the two students till the completion of their courses. He further explained that the monetary assistance is given only to meritorious students who are not in a position to afford the course fees due to weak financial background of their families.

The two lucky students picked for the scholarship are Thouchom Bidya Luxmi of Langthabal Lep Awang Leikai and Gangarani Mayanglangbam of Awang Khunou near Lamsang. Bidya Luxmi stood overall second at the state PMT conducted by the state medical directorate while Gangarani was placed in the eighth position.

Talking to IFP, both girls expressed their preference to pursue their medical studies outside the state. Bidya Luxmi has Delhi’s Lady Hardinge College on top of her mind while Gangarani wants to travel to Jaipur, Rajasthan to study at her favourite college.

The center was established last year jointly by four student organizations of Manipur, i.e. DESAM, MSF, AMSU, KSF, along with with three professors of Manipur University namely Prof. Yaswant of Linguistic department , Prof. N. Rajmohan of Chemistry and Associate Prof. P. kumar of Life Sciences.

Prof. Yaswant, executive member of the centre, stated that beside this sponsorship, they will provide guidance to students from the state with good academic records who are interested in working outside the state or abroad. He revealed that though at present the sponsorship programme is confined only to medical studies, the centre is planning to extend the programme to students undertaking courses in different fields.

The chairperson of the center had strongly advised the students not to drop-out before completion of the course after getting the financial support from the center. He further expressed that, the center is expecting the sponsored students to work in Manipur at least for ten years as a way of showing gratitude for their help.

A leader of a students’ organization appealed to individuals and families with strong financial background to sponsor meritorious students from BPL families and contribute in a good cause for the society.
