IMPHAL, September 30: More than 130 vehicles including goods laden heavy and light vehicles carrying essential commodities and passenger buses have reached Pallel this afternoon amidst a huge convoy of security escort despite the Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organization’s call of intensifying the economic blockade imposed along the Imphal-Moreh road in support of the UNC called counter economic blockade against the demands for a separate Sadar Hills district.

It may be may be mentioned that the normal flow of traffic specially vehicles carrying essential commodities from Moreh towards Imphal had been paralysed since more than a month following the imposition of economic blockade by Naga bodies under the aegis of CNPO while extending their solidarities to the UNC agitation and subsequent happenings of pocketful incidents of damaging vehicles and alleged assault of a Tata Sumo driver by suspected blockade supporters near Thamnapokpi village on September 23 evening and the sudden imposition of chakka bandh at Kakching Khunou by the transporters.

The transporters body had decided to lift the chakka bandh on receiving assurance from the state DGP for the provision of adequate escort to the transporters along the road.

Meanwhile, previously reluctant drivers have also been attracted in making the Imphal Moreh trip after hearing of the resumption of normal like services under tight security provision.
