Demonstration in support of SHDDC staged

IMPHAL, Oct 3: A sit in demonstration in support of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) was organized today at Ekou bazaar.

The protest was jointly organized by Meira Paibi and youth club of Ekou.
Around 200 women folk belonging to different communities residing in and around the area took part in the demonstration.
Speaking to media persons, Takhelamba Ibeyaima, Maira Paibi secretary of Ekou, urged the government to make their stand clear on granting districthood to Sadar Hills. “Government must immediately spell out its stance sincerely yes or no”, Ibeyaima said.
She further asserted that the people of the state have suffered enough.
Phalchong Mangte, another women demonstration asked why the government is giving step motherly treatment to the people of Sadar Hills. She maintained that Sadar Hills is not a new demand but an administrative set up formed since 1971.
Besides that the Sadar Hills people is not planning to take away Sadar Hills from Manipur after getting districthood, added Phalchong.
Sadar Hills people wants to grow like other district peacefully, and added that any untoward incident arising out of further delay in granting districthood to Sadar Hills should be the government’s responsibility.
Phalchong also dissented on the act of UNC for imposing counter blockade.
The sit in demonstration started from 9 am an ended at 5 pm.
