Family of dead pregnant woman accepts body following CM`s assurance on demands

IMPHAL, October 12: The JAC against the death of Binasakhi Devi and her unborn child due to negligence of JNIMS hospital during a press conference this afternoon has stated that the government has provided assurance to its demands.

It may be mentioned that the JAC was formed on October 8 following the death of pregnant Laishram ongbi Binasakhi, 37, w/o L Yaiskul of Heirok Part II, during preparations for caesarean surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science on October 7.

Speaking at the press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Laishram Thamboy Singh, chairman of the JAC stated that JAC representatives had met with the state Chief Minister, JNIMS superintendent, health director and other officials of the hospital yesterday evening at the Chief Minister’s official bungalow.

“The Chief Minister during the meeting has provided assurance on the demands made by the JAC through a memorandum submitted to the CM on October 7”, he said.

Following the assurance from the Chief Minister, the JAC and the family members have decided to accept the body of Binasakhi which has been lying at the JNIMS morgue.

Further charging that the government hospitals in the state lack professional ethics amongst its employees including the doctors, he added that It is high time the higher authorities of the hospitals look into the matter.

He also expressed the JAC and the family members’ gratitude to the state woman’s commission and the several organizations that have supported the JAC and the family members during the past few days.

He further added that the JAC is suspending its agitation after getting the assurance from the CM, however if the government fail to act on its assurance at the earliest, the JAC will continue with its various forms of agitations.

He further demanded that the government should take action against the doctors whose negligence had allegedly killed Binasakhi at the JNIMS operation theatre on October 7 night following complications in her pregnancy.

The JAC had alleged that Binasakhi died because of neglect on the part of the doctors concerned.
