IMPHAL, October 22: Unable to attain the demand for Sadar Hills district despite of months of agitations, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has today submitted a memorandum to the titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba praying for his support to the demand.
The representatives of SHDDC, namely president Ngamkhohao Haokip and general secretary Tonghen Kipgen, president of Sadar Hills Kings’ Forum, Chingsei, president of Kuki Women’s Union, Rose Mangsi Haokip, members of women’s societies and village chiefs of Sadar Hills met King Leishemba at the Royal Palace, Imphal this afternoon.
The memorandum submitted to the King mentioned that the central and state government has been suppressing the demand for Sadar Hills for more than 40 years. The Sadar Hills people have been deprived of the benefits of a full-fledged district.
It is also mentioned that the people of Manipur have failed to remember the history of the last few centuries which was a true symbol of unity in diversity. The people of Sadar Hills seem to have lost justice at the hands of Indian democracy which has posed serious threat to the traditional relations.
It is also their duty to fight for justice, rights and recognitions through unrelenting struggle in all forms as deserved by traditional and constitutional principles, the memorandum stated.
The SHDDC also urged upon the people for tolerance and justice to be done upon the people of Sadar Hills.
King Leishemba stated that the demand for Sadar Hills is quite rightful, but their demand has been neglected by the government for many years.
He is just the titular King with no power to exercise upon the people. However, he will render utmost support to the demand for Sadar Hills district, Leishemba asserted.
He further appealed to the state government to expedite the process of resolving the Sadar Hills issue before any untoward incident happens in the state.
The titular King will also visit the Sadar Hills area and have interactions with the people on this issue soon.
