IMPHAL, October 25: A students’ rally demanding early and peaceful solution to the impasse arising out of the demand for a separate Sadar Hills district was taken out today at Kangpokpi.
Around 300 hundred students of Saint Francis School (SFS) Daili village from class VII to Class X took part in the rally.
The rally started from the campus of the school from 10am in the morning and proceeded along the National Highway 2 towards the office of the quarter of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi.
The students also submitted a memorandum to the SDC head quarter Jeevan Limbu in the absence of the Additional Deputy Commissioner.
In the memorandum the students mentioned that the normal life of the people especially the students has been affected badly by the ongoing agitation of the SHDDC demanding full fledged district to Sadar Hills and the counter blockade of the UNC.
It asserted that a number of study days have been lost during the agitation and demanded the intervention of the authority concerned in bringing amicable solution to the issue.
The students during the rally hold placards and chanted slogans like “We demand Sadar Hills district” “we want Sadar Hills as a full fledged district” etc.
Meanwhile, the United Naga Council has alleged that supporters of the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) are forcing educational institutions, Naga villages and other non Kuki villages in Sadar Hills and Saitu sub-division to participate in rallies, economic blockade and other programme for demanding Sadar Hills district against their wishes and desires, according to the Newmai News Network.
The network has quoted the UNC as “It has therefore become necessary to advise the concerned individuals/organizations to desist from such acts of coercion which has no place in democracy. Such unacceptable acts would only create greater rift on communal lines. We also strongly urge the targeted institutions and villages to be vigilant and to firmly oppose such forcible impositions and refrain from participating in any such communally designed programmes”.
It then stated that while condemning “the short sighted and selfish actions” of some sections under Chingai and Phaibung District council constituency which was engineered to dampen the people’s movement for securing an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur, the United Naga Council would like to acknowledge those villagers in two constituencies who had heeded to the call of the Naga people under the aegis of the United Naga Council and abstaining from the election process that has been declared “ null and void” in the1st July, 2010 Naga People’s Convention. “Their resolute stand in upholding the peoples’ decision in spite of the use of money power and muscle power and their resistance to the forcible imposition of the ADC by election has been most laudable and inspiring,” the UNC stated, NNN added.
