Locals demand father-son duo to be released unharmed

IMPHAL, December 9: Locals of Irilbung Thongkhong today held a sit-in-protest against the kidnapping of a father and son by a group of individuals who identified themselves as cadres of the KCP (MTF) on the night of December 7 from his quarter located inside the Irilbung Water supply.

The protestors further demanded the father-son duo to be released unharmed at the earliest.

Speaking to media persons, one of the protestors on conditions of anonymity informed that the father identified as Soram Ibomcha Singh, 60 of the locality was working as a chowkidar at the Irilbung Water Supply and living with his family at the water supply quarters. He further identified his son as Geetchandra alias Yaipu.

Further according to the protestor, on the night of December 7 at around 9:30pm, Ibomcha was called out from his quarter by four unidentified persons. The worried family members of Ibomcha queried with the persons asking where they were taking him at which the four answered that they are taking him to talk on some issues. One of the four persons identified himself as Kesho Meetei of KCP (MTF).

Since then, Ibomcha and his son have failed to return home, he added. 

Further the family members were warned by the four persons not to report about the kidnappings and not to organize any kinds of protest including sit in protest against the kidnapping of the two, the protestor added.

The protestor further informed that there are reports that there have been some monetary demands made by a militant outfit to the Irilbung water supply and added that the father and son could have been taken away in relation to the monetary demands.

The protestors held placards reading “release the father-son without any harm”.
