IMPHAL, December 19: The long cherished dream of the people of the Tumuyon Khullen to have a community hall in their village was fulfilled today with the inauguration of a village community hall by Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen.
Speaking during the inauguration of the hall, the local MLA stated that the need of the hour is not only waiting for government assistance, but also for the people to collectively work towards development on their own.
He further mentioned that the village community hall have been constructed without any assistance from the government which shows that the people have the power to do anything on their own.
He further stated that after considering the hardworking nature and sincerity of the villagers, he would like to name the village as a model village.
He further added that he will turn the village into a model village through various schemes including the Youth development for bamboo under the UNDP; Integrated Horticulture Farming under IFAD.
He has further urged upon the villagers to extend their co-operation in realising his dream of making the village a model village.
Meanwhile, the function was also attended by the village authority, local club organizations and villagers.
Speakers at the function expressed that their village T Khullen has been used by politicians to generate political mileage. The village have been time and again shifted from one sub-division to another and from one block to another.
They further expressed that since, T Khullen lies along the NH 39, it had been under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi however it was shifted into Saikul sub-division. Later on T Khullen was shifted to Tadubi and now it is under the Saitu sub-division.
Due to the frequent shifting of the village, the authorities have failed to bring any development to the village, the speakers echoed.
They also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the local MLA for constructing the community hall from his MLA local area development fund.
Meanwhile, the village chief in presence of MDC Kangpokpi Lunthan and other leaders of the area announced the day as advance Christmas.
The inaugural function ended with a grand feast and a prayer for the success of Haokholet Kipgen.
