Husband-wife arrested; high explosives recovered

IMPHAL, April 3: A team of the Imphal west commando Lamsang post under OC Inspector P Sanjoy has arrested two suspected Maoist Communist Party from Kadangband Part I today and recovered several high explosives.

The two suspected militants identified to be husband-wife are Leichonbam Dhanabir alias Dhana alias Evai, 43 son of Kumar of Kangchup Bazar and presently staying at Kadangband part I and his wife Tongbram ningol Leichonbam ongbi Binarani alias Eche, 36.

The explosives recovered from the two are two IEDs fitted inside empty Rasgulla cans, one weighing two kg and the other weighing two and half kg, seven Neogel-90 explosives class II 25mm (manufactured by Amin explosives Pvt ltd, Yenvera, 441502, Nagpur-7), five cordex detonators, one electric detonator with a one meter long wire and another detonator without wire.

According to a police source, the two were apprehended following disclosure from the two MCP militants arrested on March 31 from Lairenkabi by a CDO team under Inspector P Sanjoy during a search operation.

It has further added that the Dhanabir and his wife are presently working under the outfit’s Imphal west district revenue officer Sairem Sanathoi alias Bobo alias Ibungo of Lamsang Mamang leikai.

Meanwhile, confirming the arrest of the two alleged militants, a statement of the SP Imphal west has informed that on spot verification, Binarani disclosed that one black polythene was given to her by s/s revenue officer Sanathoi of the outfit. They were assigned to transport arms and ammunition from one place to another place and also to serve demand letters to the elected Nagar Panchayat members for monetary demands, the statement added.
