IMPHAL, April 19: A symposium on the book “Chainarol: Way of a warrior,” which was released yesterday, was held today at Senate hall, Manipur University jointly organized by Department of Anthropology, MU and Human Rights Alert.

The program was attended by Prof H Nandakumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University, Prof W Nabakumar Singh, Department of Anthropology, MU, Babloo Loitongbam, executive director, Human Rights Alert and other eminent scholars including Prof P Nabachandra, Department of Manipuri, MU, A Birendra, Retired Director, Arts and Culture, Government of Manipur.

“The objective of holding this symposium is to locate the place of Chainarol in the culture of the Manipuri people. Keeping this view in mind we have made two sessions, first session focuses on ‘Chainarol in Manipuri Culture’ and the second session focus on ‘Chainarol and Principles of International Humanitarian Law’,” said W Nabakumar Singh, moderator of the program.

“We are all in a conflict zone whether we want or not, but the question is how we can handle it. In the present day people who are fighting does not really consider the harm and damages they can cause to the surrounding and the people who are not involved in the fight, whereas in those earlier days codes of conduct for a duel combat were strictly maintain considering the harm and damages they can bring. And I think this is something which we need to learn and this is the reason why Human Rights Alerts has chosen this topic for the book” said Prof P Nabachadra.
