IMPHAL, May 26: In a written complain submitted to the Principal Secretary (Home) Col Ajay Chowdhary, public relations officer, Ministry of Defence has urged to discipline IRB constables posted at Kangla Fort.
According to the complaint, Col Ajay Chowdhry, who has been a regular visitor to Kangla Fort for a morning walk, said that it came as a rude shocked to learn that one Constable Herojit of 1st IRB posted on sentry duty at Kangla Fort Gate no 1 was quite high handed and questioned his personal secretary (PS) as to who he was and told his PS that he had the power to throw him out of the gate/shoot him with his weapon if he so desired.
He said later he went personally at 10.30 am to meet the assistant commandant to apprise him of the incident. But the BHM, who refused to give his name, refused to give him the mobile number of the officer and told him that the AC would not be coming to the office as he has a wedding to attend to.
He then asked the BHM to take him to the next officer in charge, on which the BHM claimed that he was next in the chain of command. He said that he then apprised the BHM of what his constable had done, the BHM became rude and took out a letter dated February regarding passes to be made for walking in Kangla Fort.
He said, when he tried to reason with him saying that this was separate issue and that the constable needs to be disciplined. The BHM replied that he can go and do what he wants and also said that if he comes to Kangla on foot, they will throw him out.
Father he said that he have put in 28 years of service in the Indian Army and as a colonel today do not expect to be treated in this fashion by a constable with barely 2 years of service or the BHM with 7 to 8 years of service. And requested the commandant of 1st IRB to take appropriate action against the individuals and caution his troops to refrain from adopting a manner wherein they feel they are beyond the purview of law and discipline.
