IMPHAL, May 27: The families of Ahanthem Amujao and Sanasam David who were reportedly killed by the state police commandos in separate encounters have demanded for judicial inquiries into the deaths on Sunday.

Although various representations had been submitted to the state Home Minister, the Chief Secretary and DGP the government maintained silence until a team of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR)  visited Imphal and conducted an enquiry about the killing of Amujao following which the government ordered a magisterial inquiry.

However, the family of Amujao again urged the state Home Minister, SDO and Chief Commissioner to conduct a high-level inquiry instead of magisterial inquiry, Ahanthem Ito Devi, aunt of late Amujao told the media at the Manipur Press Club here.

At the same time, the family of late Sanasam David alleged that the former was not killed in an encounter and that he was murdered by security forces with an aim to conceal the facts behind the killing of Amujao.

Saying that the magisterial inquiry being taken up with regard to the killing is inappropriate, S Brojen, brother of David said no intimation was made to the family prior to the inquiry and it was learnt from newspapers.

He also expressed regret that only five days were given to the eye witnesses to submit their testimonies in connection with the killing, stating that we do not want such inquiry which has lost credibility.

“We want a high level inquiry like judicial inquiry,” he appealed to the government.
