Man electrocuted

    IMPHAL, May 29: A 40-year-old man was electrocuted while trying to steal cable wires laid over an electric post near the Multipurpose Hall of Imphal College under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West early morning today.

    The deceased is identified as Pebam Somorendro, son of late P Kulabidhu, a resident of Kwakeithel Lamdong here.

    He was found dead by some morning walkers with his head submerged in a ditch. It is believed that he fell off the pole while trying to cut the cable wires, a police source said.A police team came to the site and pulled up the body from the ditch when they found his hand holding a pair of pliers along with a short cable wire. The police team also saw smoke billowing from around his neck.

    Sensing danger, the police first reluctant to recover the body as they saw smoke billowing from the body, but later they fished out it using a long wire, the sources added.

    A knife tucked in his waist was also found from his body. He was involved in other cases of stealing wires before, they said.

    The body has been handed over to his family after conducting autopsy at RIMS mortuary.
