IMPHAL, June 11: The Student’s Federation of India, Manipur state unit announced its new president during a press meet held at the Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak today.

The student federation also announced 14 resolutions including demand for handing over of the Loitam Richard case to the CBI and repeal of AFSPA from the state.

Speaking to media persons this morning, central executive committee member, Salam Pari Luwang said Th Mukta will be the new president of the state unit of the student body. He has been selected from the newly elected 17 office bearers.

Elaborating on the resolutions taken by the student body during its 8th Manipur State Conference held from June 10 to June 11, the spokesperson said, the student body further proposed a separate Manipur State College Commission to safeguard the interest of higher education in the state.

Regarding the Loitam Richard case, he said SFI president and MP from Kerala, PK Biju has already taken the Loitam Richard case to the floors of the Parliament, he said. The MP had taken up the issue of racial profiling faced by the students of the NE region in other parts of the country, he said.

He continued that the resolutions passed by the student body include demands to safeguard the interest of the minorities and workers in the state.

Meanwhile, demanding development of higher education in the state, the student body also proposed a 10 percent of the education Sector funding under the state budget for higher education.

He said other demands of the student body include development of health facilities in the state so that medical facilities reach even the interior parts of the state.
