CCC to take on overcharging shopkeepers

IMPHAL, June 9: The Consumers’ Club Churachandpur (CCC) is shocked to learn that some, if not most, of the shopkeepers/traders in and around Churachandpur district are engaging in illegal activities in total contravention to the established Consumers’ Rights, Laws & and Acts, said CCC in a release.

The Club said that it has been receiving series of complaints by the consumers, who have been exorbitantly charged by some shopkeepers in excess to the printed M.R.P. (Maximum Retail Price) on the goods & products.

What is more abhorring is that profit-oriented (capitalists?) shopkeepers rescind, rub or overwrite the printed M.R.P. on the goods/products in their efforts to let themselves get rich quick, it further said.

Since these mundane practices are illegal, unethical and un-called for, the Consumers’ Club Churachandpur strongly appeals to the authority concerned to remedy the maladies so as to promote and uphold Consumers’ Rights & Responsibilities.

In the event wherein these nasty activities continued to remain uncurbed and/or uncontrolled, the CCC shall be compelled to take every possible course of actions in the interest of the Consumers, it added.
