Indefinite bandh along NH-39

    IMPHAL, June 10: An indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh road (NH-39) has been imposed by residents of Pallel with effect from 6 am of June 11 to protest against the killing of Paokholet Haokip.

    The body of Paokholet, a native of Sita village in Chandel district, was recovered by police from Sengvai River bank on June 4 last after he was allegedly killed by unknown persons.

    The decision to call the indefinite bandh along the National Highway was taken during a joint community meeting held at the PDP Hall, Pallel on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by A Nungshi Devi, president of Ching-Tam Nupi Apunba Lup (CHINALUP).

    The meeting, which was also attended by leaders of different communities, decided to enforce a total bandh on Imphal-Moreh road beginning from 6 am of June 11.

    However, the media, water supply and other activities related to religious ceremonies will not be covered under the purview of the bandh.
