JAC demands suspension of OC

IMPHAL, June 12: The Officer-in-charge of Khongjom Police Station is now under intense pressure as the JAC formed against the alleged brutal beating of a father and son has demanded suspension of the police officer alleging his involvment in the beating.

The JAC has set June 15 as the deadline for the suspension of the police officer.

Today, the JAC submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister demanding suspension of Khongjom Police Station, OC Bidyanandi.

On June 8 at about 9:30 am, a police team led by OC Bidyanandi arrested Sapam Nilababu and his son Sapam Brojendro from their residence at Sapam Khongnang Shamphabi, Khongjom. Later, the police handed them over to the family after severely beating them up, the memorandum said.

OC Bidyanandi should be suspended before June 15 failing which the JAC would impose an indefinite bandh in Thoubal district from June 16, Sapam Tondonsana told reporters at the Manipur Press club here Tuesday.
