IMPHAL, June 8: A man who was allegedly released by the Imphal PS after he was handed over to the PS by the Assam Rifles on charges of being a Maoist Communist Party cadre today negated the charges and said he has no relation with any militant outfit.

The man is one Khwairakpam Ramesh alias Naocha, 40 son of (L) Manijao of Sekmai Makha Leikai.

He was speaking to a select group of media persons at his Sekmai residence.

He said he was apprehended by a group of 43 AR personnel in civvies from near his residence on June 5 night and handed over to the Imphal PS around 11:30pm of the same day.

He continued that he was returning after closing his pharmacy at Sekmai bazar when he was picked up by the AR personnel in civvies.

Elaborating on the incident, he said he was blindfolded and taken to a place where he was interrogated.

The personnel enquired if he knew one Khaidem Ibemcha from Khumbong bazar, and when he replied in the negative, they continued the interrogation by asking where he has hidden his weapons and other fellow cadres. He however denied any knowledge of weapons and militant cadres.

He further lamented the AR action as a kidnapping. He alleged that he was arrested without any arrest memo and without the presence of any state police.
