IMPHAL, June 11: The Naga People’s Organization has called for strengthening and preservation of Naga Customary Court to all Naga villages, tribes, organizations, revolutionary groups and government.
A press statement of the NPO has said, “In the wake of frequent dishonoring and overruling lower court verdict/order and seeking the interventions of revolutionary groups and Organizations directly, the NPO appeals for procedural course of registering appeals and rights among the Khels, Villages, Tribes and Society as a whole”.
It has continued that the historical practices of settling disputes and problems in Naga society has been the most favored judicial system among the villages and tribes till today.
“However, it is unfortunate the direct involvement of some organizations and revolutionary groups without referring to concerned Village, Khel or Tribal Customary Court has raised concerns and disapproval of the people”, it said.
“While respecting the Judiciary system of any Government and organizations, the need to FIRST uphold and strengthen the customary of different villages and tribes is our outmost appeal”, it said.
