IMPHAL, June 17: The Universal Origin Philosophy Research Institute (UOPRI) on Sunday unveiled a new logo named ‘Universal Logo Sakok Mirel Langpum at its office premises at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai here.

Giving the keynote address at the function, Soibam Ibemhal, Lecturer, Modern College, Imphal and advisor, UOPRI, said the research institute was set up back in 1995 under the leadership of Sinam Ibomcha Khuman.

She said a land must have its own flag, costume and tradition as well as religion. If there is a religion of a particular land, there must also be a script of its own, Ibemhal insisted.

The 27-letter Meitei script is now learning in all the schools in the state though there was a time when a controversy emerged regarding actual number of letters of the script, she added.

Besides the Meitei script, research works on various historical facts of the Meitei is being taken up by UOPRI, she informed.

She also admitted that the logo which was released today is not the totally error -free one but the research institute seeks advice from all the scholars and other individuals who have knowledge in the field.

Wangkhem Ibochou, manuscript custodian, Sinam Ibomcha Khuman, director, UOPRI,  Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba, president, MEELAL Kangleipak  attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
