Cash incentives will be given to National Games medalists: Ibobi

IMPHAL, July 9: The state government has so far given incentive awards to 10,154 outstanding sportspersons beginning from the year 1984, stated Chief Minister Okram Ibobi while presenting the demand for Youth Affairs and Sports in the House today.

Chief Minister Ibobi further maintained that the state government has earmarked Rs. 3,50,000 for the cash incentive awards of medalists of Jharkhand National Games.

The outstanding sportspersons have always been encouraged and supported by the state government. Olympian P Nilakamal, MC Mary Kom and Dingku have been accommodated with homestead bungalows. Mini sports complex have been constructed for promoting games and sports in each and every district of the state popularly known as “Powerhouse of Sports”.

Further, replying to a query raised by MLA Ibomcha regarding the cash incentive award for boxer Sarjubala, Chief Minister maintained that the process of awarding cash incentive to the outstanding boxer Sarjubala has been delayed somehow, but it will be presented soon.

Ibobi also stated that five percent reservation for sportspersons has been made for admission to medical and other technical courses.
