IMPHAL, July 24: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to the people of the state to honour and pay tribute to the patriots who had laid down their lives fighting for the freedom against the mighty British Forces in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.

A release of the DESAM mentioned that the story of valiant patriots like Bir Tikendrajit, Paona Brajabasi, Thangal General and other great Manipuris should not be considered as mere folktales. The patriots should be regarded as “living leaders” who would guide the people of this present age.

DESAM further appealed to the authorities of schools and colleges not to declare holiday on August 13 (Patriots’ Day) and organize the observation along with competitions on recitation and symposium in every school, college and university of the state.
