IMPHAL, July 7: A forcible abortion was conducted on a girl by a doctor with the active connivance of the family members of the boy who eloped with the girl.
Speaking to members of the media family members of the girl identified as Ningthoujam Bisana @ Baby of Khangabok said, after elopement on April 23 this year the girl Bisana was taken to a private clinic at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai by the family members of the boy identified as Laishram Boy @ Dinesh of Khangabok Part II Maisnam Leikai of Thoubal district and forcibly conducted the abortion even as the girl pleaded that information be given to her family.
The doctor’s name is Dr Memcha Devi, wife of S Vikramaditya Singh of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai. According to the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971, a single doctor cannot conduct an abortion and she/he should first consult with another doctor.
The girl’s family has also appealed the concerned authority to punish the doctor and the people who are involved in the case.
Boy’s father has been arrested and still at police custody and they heard he will be out on bill soon.
Police ask her to report at the Thoubal police station.
