Protest at Sangakpham

IMPHAL, August 23: Locals and family members of one Nameirakpam Bhomen who was allegedly kidnapped staged a sit in protest today after his unidentified assailants demanded a Rs 10 lakh ransom at the Sangakpham Bazar.

Speaking to media persons during the demonstration, one of the family members informed that Bhomen alias Amarjeet, 37 son of Athouba of Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai was abducted from his own courtyard by unidentified persons coming in a Maruti Van on August 21 at around 3:30pm.

He continued that after the abduction there was no communication from the said assailants for the day, however the next morning, his younger brother received a phone call on his mobile number from an unknown number, demanding a Rs 10 lakh ransom for his brother’s safe release.

The family member also added that the mobile number has remained switch after that instance.

Salanthong Meira Paibi, secretary, Sanjem Khoibimacha while identifying Bhomen as a small time contractor appealed to the assailants to release him considering the plight of his family.

She has also added that following the abduction, Bhomen’s wife has remained unwell and unable to even come out and join the protest.

She further urged the concerned individuals to identify themselves.

The sit in protest was participated by the Lairikyengbam Leikai meira Paibi, Laipham Khunou Meira Paibi, Salanthong Meira Paibi and other locals.
