“Songs of Mashangva” the musical film produced and directed by Oinam Doren has been selected into the 18th edition of the Lessinia Film Festival in the “Competition” category and will be shown in Bosco Chiesanuova, Italy from August 18- 26, 2012.
According to a message from the festival director, The Lessinia Film Festival selection committee met to consider works from 44 countries in order to deliberate their admission into the 18th annual Film Festival.
The idea for the musical film was conceived way back in college when the national award winning filmmaker Oinam Doren was doing his graduation and heard Rewben Mashangva’s music for the first time. The melodious tunes which Mashangva described as ‘naga folk blues’ rooted to the tangkhul folk music was something the young music lover/collector Doren has never heard before. Eight years later, the father of Naga folk blues and the filmmaker met by accident in Shallow Rivers Studio Imphal that led them to collaborate on three musical films. Songs of Mashangva is the first of the trilogy.
Songs of Mashangva has already won the 58th National Award and has been screened in a number of prestigious film festivals around the world including Indian Panorama 2011. Wherever it was screened, the film won rave appreciation for its soundtrack and the mesmerizing photography shot for about a year and half in some of the most exotic locations in Rajasthan, Shillong, Nagaland, Kolkatta and a number of foggy, mysterious villages in Ukhrul.
