Eco-blockade on Ukl road

IMPHAL, October 29: The economic blockade along Imphal-Ukhrul road called by the JAC with regard to the alleged abduction and disappearance of Irungbam Irabanta became effective from Sunday noon.

The JAC had earlier announced that it will impose an economic blockade starting from October 12, demanding safe release of Irabanta.

Since the time Irabanta went missing, the JAC has been launching various forms of agitations including sit in protest, bandhs etc. demanding the state government as well as the alleged abductors to ensure the safe release of Irabanta. The JAC members today stopped vehicles carrying goods on the Imphal-Ukhrul road and even pulled down goods from vehicles at Seijang Lamkhai under Yaingangpokpi Police Station. The JAC members checked both the vehicles coming from Imphal and Ukhrul.

Speaking with media persons, one of the JAC members said that the JAC have already announced earlier that they will impose economic blockade on Imphal-Ukhrul road from October 12.

Earlier, the JAC have also launched various forms of democratic agitation and also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, but till today there is no sign of any positive outcome regarding the Irabanta missing case, the JAC member said.

Later, a team of Yaingangpokpi Police led by its Officer-in-Charge came to the area and picked up the goods which were pulled down by the JAC members and took it along with them to Yaingangpokpi Police Station.

It may be mentioned here that Irabanta has been remain traceless after he left his rented house at Porompat for Ukhrul along with one person named Winner from Ukhrul on May 27 this year in a white Maruti Gypsy bearing registration no MN-1k-2171.
