AGARTALA October 19: The 6th Nongmaithem Pahari’s death anniversary observation and prize distribution of ceremony of the 4th Pahari memorial song competition was held yesterday at Nazrul Kalakshetra, Agartala.
The function was jointly organized by Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust, Imphal and Lamyanba Organisation, Agartala as part of the program ‘Pahari Beyond the Border.’
The program was attended by Kh Ratan Kumar Singh, Minister of Transport & PWD, Govt of Manipur; B Jayenta Kumar Sharma, president of Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust, Imphal; Dr RK Prafullajit Sing, chairperson, AMC; MLA Ksh Biren Singha as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Addressing the function, Kh Ratan Kumar said that Pahari was like a father to him. Pahari many a times make him want to become a singer.
The Minister continued that Pahari had always dreamed and worked to unite the people of Manipur within the boundary of Manipur and beyond.
He stated that organizing this function in Tripura will help in strengthening the relationship among the Manipuris of Tripura and Manipur. He said that the Manipuris must not shy away in promoting and using our own language in Tripura but in fact we must be proud of it. He also lauded those Manipuris in Tripura who had welcomed Pahari after his release from jail in Tripura.
President of the function B Jayentakumar Sharma shared a short account of Pahari’s life time. He said N Pahari was not born in a well off family and that he had to struggle throughout his life. He said that N Pahari’s mother died early and he was raised by his aunty. Pahari’s love of his motherland made him a revolutionary and he had to spend many nights at the jail. He later served in AIR.
Pahari had help in building a good relationship between the Manipuris of Tripura and Manipur and we need to carry forward his dream of a united Manipur whether in the Manipur or outside in future too, he added.
