IMPHAL, October 10: Irom Chanu Sharmila was produced before the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Imphal East at Lamphel Court today at around 11 am. Post her court appearance, she requested the judge to grant permission to speak to the media which was denied by the mentioned.
On her way out of the court-room, she voiced disappointment of not being able to address her opinion to the reporters which had gathered at the premises. “The media is a mirror of the society, I do not comprehend why permission has not been granted”, she lamented.
Talking to IFP, Irom Singhajit Singh yesterday mentioned that she went to meet Sharmila at JNIMS security ward after hearing that she was not feeling well. The sentry posted at the ward denied Singhajit entry , but on hearing her brother’s voice, Sharmila came out of the room and they had a brief chat.
She had mentioned of her schedule of making a court appearance today and also stated that she will be transported to Delhi on October 16 as she is due for a personal appearance on the 17 October at Patiala Court.
On the subject, Singhajit stated that Sharmila had undertaken a fast at Jantar Mantar on 4 October 2006. She was later arrested by Delhi Police on 6 October and produced before the Patiala Court.
She was later released on bail but the case has not been disposed off. Hence she is slated to make a personal appearance. Singhajit further stated that an actress called ‘Ojhas’ will accord solidarity to Sharmila on her Delhi court attendance time by holding a special program. Ojhas is an artist and has played the role of Sharmila in a Marathi play entitled “Le Masale”( Meira Paibee) which has been shown 58 times across the Nation.
About Sharmila’s appearance at Patiala Court, IFP contacted Subhaschandra, Additional SP of Central Jail. He mentioned that prior permit has to be taken from the Civil Aviation Ministry as Sharmila is not physically sound.
Further, the expenditure of transport for her has to be borne by the state Home Department. The ASP mentioned that there is no arrangement of taking her to Patiala Court as of present and is sceptical if she can be produced on time.
