IMPHAL, October 28: The gambling mafia which was busted at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Sanglen by state police for hosting daily Housie games some months back has sought greener pastures in local community halls.
IFP report on the illegal gambling circuit was reported back in June last and the kingpins have shifted their modus operandi and locations afterwards. It may be mentioned that some individuals were racking in huge amounts by hosting bingo games sans permit from the concerned authorities. The gambling was held under the banner of different organizations ad under fictitious benefits.
The latest development is that rampant gambling with prizes of cars and small vehicles has been occurring rampantly at Thangmeiband area.
The concerned clubs namely Thangmeiband United Club and Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup has clamped restrictions on such gambling activities in the mentioned area with immediate effect.
A meeting held by the clubs yesterday had objected to the public gambling which benifitted some individuals only. It was resolved that Housie’s organized by unknown individuals or clubs in Thangmeiband area will be banned.
The local organizations may conduct events twice a year for raising development funds and should in prior inform the mentioned clubs.
