IMPHAL, November 1: A Manipur Rifle personnel today assaulted a Traffic Policeman at New Bazar Churachandpur over a minor scuffle over a parking area this evening around 4:30pm.
The actual location of the skirmish is just about 200 meters further from the Churachandpur Police station.
The MR personnel identified as Lalvengthang, 21 son of Letseak of Saipum village CHurachandpur has been arrested by the police while the Traffic Policeman identified as Zalang a constable from New CHurachandpur has been hospitalized. Zalang is injured on his face and other parts of his body, sources said.
The incident happened when Lalvengthang tried to park his vehicle at an unauthorised area to which Zalang objected.it is learnt that the MR personnel assaulted Zalang after his refusal to allow him park his vehicle there.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that on the first day of drive against two-wheler drivers without helmets (headgear), the Churachandpur District police and traffic police arrested more than 100 individuals including women for driving two-wheelers without helmets.
However, all of them were released after making them to pay fines as first time offenders.
