Agri Min inspects Mini barrage site


IMPHAL, Dec 1: An official team of the state government led by Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir today inspected the site where a mini barrage will be constructed at the cost of above rupees three crores on Khuga River at Uyungmakhong in Kumbi Assembly Constituency.        

The minister was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary of Minor Irrigation, K Meghachandra, MLA of Kumbi AC, S Bira, MLA of Kakching AC, Y Surchandra and other officials. 

During their visit, Rabi seeds were distributed at four different places in Kumbi Assembly Constituency. The distribution of Rabi seeds programme is sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India and it is being organized by Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur.

Agriculture Minister Nasir said the fields in Kumbi AC are one of the most affected in this year’s drought like situation. The state Agriculture department is making every effort to make up the losses of the farmers by distributing this winter crops.

“Steps have been taken up to implement Agricultural land policy to save the agricultural land turning into Schools, colleges, oil pumps, etc,” he informed. 

Parliamentary Secretary, Meghachandra said there is provision to construct pick up weir, dam and mini barrage at every districts of the state soon. For Thoubal district it will be constructed at Kakching and for Bishnupur district it is constructed at Uyungmakhong, Saiton in Kumbi AC.

State Agriculture department Deputy Director, Ph Rajendra said the state agriculture department by setting up this village call Heikol in Saiton as a model seeds village has produced Thampha rice successfully and also by planting mustards on zero tillage, had even collected seeds from it successfully.

He also appealed the farmers to make a habit of saving the seeds for the next year by colleting it from the current year, as the state agriculture department cannot provide seeds to farmers every year.
