Charangpat locals allege VDF hand in Sushil`s death

IMPHAL, December 26: Locals of Charangpat came out to the streets to block Charangpat road putting up trees and burning tyres today claiming that a bricklayer was killed by VDF personnel posted at Central Agri University.

Police had to resort to firing tear gas shells to disperse the mob, sources informed.

The bricklayer identified as Kharibak Sushil, 22, son of Kh Rajen of Charangpat Manning Leikai was working at the university.

The locals alleged that he was allegedly injured in a fray with some VDF personnel posted at the university yesterday late evening around 7pm.

He succumbed to his injuries at around 8:50pm at RIMS where he was rushed for treatment.

Locals say that the fray erupted between the deceased and the VDF personnel after the latter prevented the bricklayer and other workers to go out of the CAU campus citing that the time for going outside was over.

Following the scuffle, Sushil fell into a pit and was rushed to RIMS where he succumbed the same day around 8:50pm.

The concern Lamphel police has registered a case on the incident and has detained the VDF personnel posted at CAU for interrogation on the case, a reliable source informed.

Meanwhile, a public meeting was held at Dinesh Union Club, Charangpat Ground during which a JAC was formed.

The newly formed JAC adopted four resolutions during the meeting.

The resolutions include punishment for all involved and demands for judicial inquiry into the killing, a suitable job for the deceased’s next of kin, provision of Rs ten lakh as ex-gratia to the bereaved family and non-acceptance of the dead body until the government fulfils the resolutions.
