DESAM begins anti-corruption campaign with cycle rally

IMPHAL, December 9: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur, DESAM inaugurated its one year long ‘Anti-corruption campaign’ with a cycle rally today as part of its ‘International Anti-Corruption Day’ observation under the theme “Act against corruption today”.

DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin flagged off the rally with 60 participants from the student body’s Keishampat hq.

The rally culminated at the same after passing along the Tiddim road, Kwakeithel Bazar, Khangenpali road, Pisum, Singjamei, CM Bungalow, Palace Compound, New Checkon road, Minuthong, Khoyathong, Nagamapal, Waheng Leikai.

Cyclists held placards reading “Anti-corruption start from you”, “We can stop corruption”, “We should fight corruption for our future”, “Be honest and fight corruption”, “Manipur against corruption”, etc.

Later on the student body also called a press conference at its hq with its advisor attending as spokesperson.

Speaking to media persons, the spokesperson LC Santosh said, today’s cycle rally against corruption was organised following recommendation from several resource persons during a three day long anti-corruption seminar held at Manipur University from September 1-3.

During the year-long campaign, the student body will organize street plays, street corner meetings and several other awareness programmes all over the state, he said.

Everyone is aware of what corruption is, nonetheless, people are still attracted by it which has compelled DESAM to take up the initiative and start the anti-corruption campaign, he said.

The main objective of the year-long campaign will be to spread awareness on the issue and encourage the public to distance themselves from corruption, the spokesperson said.

The student leader ended the press conference with an earnest appeal to the general public to join hands with DESAM on the anti-corruption campaign.
