IMPHAL, December 9: Concerned with the alleged assault of a mentally challenged and dumb individual and leaving him near the Serou Thong Ashangbi (bridge) on December 5, locals of Tangjeng Khunou have formed a JAC, informed one of its members.
Speaking to media persons at JNIMS where the injured person is currently undergoing treatment, the JAC member who identified himself as Thounaojam Jiten decried the incident and demanded action from the authorities at the earliest.
He identified the alleged victim as Abujam Sanayaima, 47 son of (L) A Nongyai Meitei of Tangjeng Khunou and continued that a local of his village was informed by the police about finding Sanayaima in an unconscious state on the Serou side of the bridge by Serou locals, the same day.
Sanayaima was found with deep wounds on his head and in an unconscious state, he said.
Meanwhile, a rally was also taken out from Tangjeng Khunou to Serou on December 8 by villagers of Tangjeng Khunou, Chajing Khunou, Korgantobi, Tangjeng Khunjao Mangjing, Khongyam Khabuk, Wapokpi, Sugnu.
He continued that none of the locals had to be called out to participate the rally as they all came out on their own accord. Following the rally a public meeting was also held during which the villagers contributed money for his treatment, he said.
