Road accident claims the highest number of lives

IMPHAL, December 31: The number of post mortems conducted at RIMS and JNIMS from January 2012 till today, December 31 stands at 505 bodies of different cases, including road accident cases, suicide cases and bullet injury deaths.       

RIMS and JNIMS forensic departments conducted post mortems of 505 deaths in various incidents this year. The number of deaths in accident cases is the highest for this year with 126 deaths. RIMS forensic department conducted post mortems for cases registered with police stations in Imphal West, Bishnupur and Senapati districts. 

JNIMS forensic department conducted post mortems for cases registered with police stations in Imphal East, Thoubal and Chandel districts while for Ukhrul district, it was conducted at RIMS or JNIMS according to the convenience of the family members.

Post mortems for Churachandpur district were conducted at its district hospital while controversial cases or those involving central forces were conducted at RIMS.

The post mortem of 310 dead bodies were conducted at RIMS, out of which 115 were killed in road accidents, 48 died due to bullet injuries, 22 committed suicide and seven killed in bomb explosion.

JNIMS conducted post mortem of 193 dead bodies of police personnel from which, 81 were killed in road accidents, 34 died of bullets injuries and 14 committed suicides by hanging themselves.

Earlier, the number of deaths of security personnel and unidentified persons dying of bullet wounds recorded the highest. But this year, road accident claimed the highest number of lives with 196 deaths. With 94 deaths due to bullets wounds; it has secured the second place and with 36 deaths, the number of suicide cases by hanging is the third main reason of death in the state.
