IMPHAL, December 24: Women Action for Development (WAD) has in a statement express shock over the death of Thangjam Dwijamani @nanao of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai,a stringer of the Guwahati based Prime time News channel in police firing while covering the general strike protesting against the Chandel incident. Stating that the bullet is not a means to bring any probable solution, it said that such incidents highlights the violations of press rights and the death of democracy in the state. Demanding for stern action against those involved in the firing, WAD further appealed to the Government to provide special attention to the family and more so the wife and two minor children of the deceased. Appealing for a secure and safe environment for media to exercise their duties freely, the statement also expressed its deep sorrow and bereavement with the family of Thangjam Dwijamani. It also expressed shock over the violence meted out to Momoko and two other artistes at Chandel and questioned why the Government is yet to take any concrete steps against the accused.
