IMPHAL, January 3: Family members finally accepted the dead body of Gongsingam Dangmei who was allegedly killed by 10th Assam Rifles on December 30, 2012 evening at Sangji village. A post mortem was conducted at the JNIMS mortuary before it was handed over to the family members. A magisterial inquest was also performed on the dead body before the post mortem which was videotaped, according to sources.
The killing of G Dangmei has been shrouded in controversies with contrasting claims surrounding his death with the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur claiming that Gongsingam Dangmei, 18 son of Gongbi Dangmei of Nonei bazar and a former ZUF cadre was killed in a fake encounter by security forces. Security forces in the meantime claimed that Gongsingam Dangmei a ZUF cadre was killed during an encounter in the general areas of Lamdangmai and Sangji late December 30, 2012 night.
Earlier, the ZSUM had yesterday suspended its earlier call for an indefinite bandh citing government assurance and the signing of a MoU with the state government on the issue.
