IMPHAL, February 28: The Manipur Science and Technology Council, Imphal observed the National Science Day 2013 under the national theme “Genetically modified crops and food security” with a book entitled as “Beigyanikshingee Khongul” written by Dr Debananda S Ningthoujam being released.
LP Gonmei Principal Secretary (S&T) government of Manipur as chief guest of the function said Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) was formed to promote the interest of scientific achievement and promote the interest of Science in the mind of the younger generation.
He further said that the meaning of science is “seeking of the truth”.
He quoted words from Bible and said, “seek the truth and the truth will set you free”.
He further said in the process of science we have to change the attitude to become better in the future.
Th Surendranath Singh, Director, Manipur Science and Technology Council said the National Science Day began to be observed in the nation on 28th February 1987 which was recommended by the National Science and Technology for communication in the year 1986 and which continues to be observed to this day.
Dr Debananda S Ningthoujam said science is an endless journey, however in the state there is lack of educational institute and there is lack of work culture in Manipur.
He further said it is important to bring out a great scientist from the state or from the nation. Science and arts are closely related.
