IMPHAL, March 5: Just a day after three accused in rape cases were attacked by angry women protestors inside the Cheirap court complex, the dead body of a 16 year old girl was found in a semi nude condition in a canal under the Lamshang Police station in Imphal West at noon today.
Locals of the surrounding village of Haorang canal came across the dead body of the girl and informed the police. There were bruise marks all over the face while the rear portion of the head had a deep wound that might have been inflicted after being hit with a heavy and sharp object.
According to the brother, the deceased girl had left their house some three to four days back after he scolded her over a family matter, following which she left home. He added that family members had been searching for her whereabouts.
He further said that she was been seen coming back home the day before his son in night though no elders were aware of it. Family members went out and searched for her but she remained traceless till her body was found in the canal today. The Lamshang police have taken up a case regarding the incident and the body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem.
