Month long May Day observation started

IMPHAL, April 25: A month long May Day observation on the motto `economic self reliance` will be observed at various places of the state from May 1 till May 31.

Speaking during a press meet at its office S Bimol, President of FRIENDS said May Day, the first day of the month of May is celebrated all over the world with utmost importance.

Additionally, he informed that the All Manipur Manpower Upliftment Centre will observe a month long May Day in the state at Rupmhal Theatre, Sawongbum, Naranshena, Senapati, Iramshiphai, Jeri, Kakching Khunou, Khongbam Thangbul. During the day, awareness programs and a street campaign etc will also be conducted.

“The main aim of observation of May Day in various places is to bring unity among farmers and workers in the state irrespective of caste and creed,” he said.

Further he said that the number of non locals is increasing rapidly and they took over most of the employment of the state from locals leading to the people of the state getting unemployed in the state. The increase in unemployment in the state also makes the youths fall victim to drugs and alcohol.

He appealed to the people to co-operate both financially and physically to make the observation a grand success.
