NESO apprises PM on region`s issues

IMPHAL, May 16: A delegation consisting of 18 members of the North East Students Organisation (NESO) comprising of the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU); All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU); All Assam Students’ Union (AASU); Garo Students Union (GSU); Khasi Students Union (KSU); Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP); Naga Students Union and Tripura Students’ Federation (TSF) has been camping in New Delhi to apprise the central leaders of the country on the burning issues confronting the people of the North Eastern region since May 6, said Sinam Prakash, secretary general NESO during a press meet at the AMSU office today.

He said that on May 8, the delegation met the Prime Minister  and had an in-depth deliberation on various important issues affecting the NE region.

He continued that NESO had urged the PM to set up a special Education Commission in order to accelerate the state of education in the region and to evolve a suitable and appropriate educational policy which is relevant for the people of region.

Further according to him, during the meeting, the delegates also urged the PM to repeal AFSPA and other inhumane laws and also demand for a comprehensive policy against the infiltration of illegal migrants, refugees into the region.

He further said the delegate also urged the PM to proceed with caution regarding the construction of mega dams in the NE region after checking the environmental clearance reports.

Until and unless the reports are examined and approved, the constructions should be stopped because NE region is a seismic sensitive region, the delegate members appealed the PM, he said.

Furthermore he said the delegation had also met opposition leaders of Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj; the office bearers of the North East MPs Forum, BJP national president, Rajnath Singh; Rahul Gandhi and the Election Commissioner.

Sinam Prakash also added that the central leaders gave assurance to the delegates that they will discuss in-depth about the issues raised by the apex student group.
