Trial in TG student rape case will conclude in 2 months: Ng Tejkumar

IMPHAL, May 27: Ng Tejkumar, Special public prosecutor in a brief chat with media at the court complex of the District and Sessions court Imphal East today said that the trial progress in the case of rape of a student TG School is 70% complete and that the trail is expected to be complete in another two months.

He then went on to say that the charge sheet was filed by the concerned  police station  on December 2012 to the CJM court. Since it was a case of rape, it was then taken up by the District and Sessions court, Imphal East from February 25 onwards. The court have now recorded the statements of five persons with regard to the case, he said.

He further said that the TG school student  gave her statement in court and was then cross examined by the counsel of the accused.

All together, 25 persons have been named as prosecution witnesses, out of which 5 witnesses have given their statement to the court. The statements of the remaining witnesses will be taken up on a weekly basis so that the trial is complete at the earliest and justice delivered, the Special Public Prosecutor said.

He further said that it is very unfortunate to see some news being published in the newspapers of the state that it has been past 6 months that the trial in the case has been going on and clarified that the trial was started from 21 March 2013 after the charge sheet was submitted by the concerned police.

Giving the assurance that the case of rape of the student would see a speedy trail, the Special Public Prosecutor appealed to all the NGOs who are working for the welfare of the women, civil society organizations and the general public to support the functioning of the judicial system in the state.

It may be mentioned that the two rape accused identified as Yumnam William (28), son of late Deben of Khagempali Pankha, a police commando and  Tongbram Tarun (27) son of Jayenta of Thangmeiband Sinam  a Manipuri digital film  actor  are presently in judicial custody at Shajiwa Central Jail with regard to the rape incident.
