Patient party alleges police brutality on way to hospital

IMPHAL, May 2: A man has today alleged that his brother in law has been admitted at the Raj Polyclinic with both his ears damaged after a brutal assault at Bishnupur Bazar by police commandos while he was on his way to the hospital for stomach pain.

Meanwhile, the Bishnupur Police Station Officer in Charge, Inspector Rishikesh when contacted on the allegations has said that though he has some information, there is still no official complaint from any party concerning the incident.

On the other hand, speaking to media persons at the Raj Polyclinic, the man who identified himself as Deben said that he along with six others including a woman were taking his brother in law Khwairakpam Paka (33) son of (L) Modhu of Ithang Mamang Leikai, Thanga to Imphal for treatment after he complained of stomach ache late last night around 10pm in a Tata Winger.

Paka was also being treated for a stone case, he said.

He continued that a team of Bishnupur commandos stopped their vehicle at Bishnupur Bazar area.

He alleged that on stopping the vehicle, one of the CDO personnel asked them where they were going to at which they replied they were carrying a patient to a hospital in Imphal.

The CDO team made them alight from their vehicle and without any instigation from their side, the cdo personnel starting beating the patient, he alleged and added that when he tried to intervene he met with the same fate as his brother in law.

He further alleged that some of the CDO personnel involved in the incident were also drunk.

They were let off only after being detained for around 30-40 minutes, he continued to place his allegations.

On reaching Imphal, the patient was admitted in the Raj Polyclinic with both his ears damaged, he claimed.
