LAMKA, August 16: A personnel of the 1st Indian Reserve Battalion, identified as P Basanta Singh (28), son of P Kananjoy Singh of Athokpam Leikai, Thoubal allegedly shot himself with his service rifle (SLR) inside his room at the SBI building at Lamka, yesterday.
The incident occurred around 8:00pm, while the nation was celebrating Independence Day on August 15.
P Basanta Singh,the only son of his parent, had been posted as a security guard at the SBI lead Branch in CCpur, located along Tiddim Road, just a few months back.
His colleague said that he had shot himself while they were eating their dinner. They had also informed that the victim seemed to be suffering from some sort of stress or deep personal problem and had been drinking alcohol from morning till he slept.
A team of policemen led by the SDPO CCpur David Piaklian with the OC of CCpur Police Station, Inspector Elves Tunglut visited the crime spot immediately to ascertain the situation and later the body was sent to RIMS Imphal for Post Mortem and for forensics expert’s examination.
A case of suicide had been registered at CCpur Police Station.
