Mega blood donation camp held

BISHNUPUR, September 30: The Ningthoukhong Theatre Centre under the sponsorship of Manipur Aids Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur organized one day mega blood donation camp on the occasion of the 117th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot at Ningthoukhong Community Hall.

During the blood donation camp, regular blood donors like RK Dayananda of Ningthoukhong who has donated 38 times, Dr H Romen Singh of Ishok who has donated 26 times, H Shyamchand and H Khomei who have donated 19 times each took part.

Altogether 101 donors including 4 women participated in the blood donation camp.

RK Dayananda Singh expressed to IFP that the Ningthoukhong Theatre Centre had been organizing blood donation camps since 2003 and the present camp is the second mega camp.

The first mega blood donation camp was organized on September 30, 2005 in collaboration with JNIMS blood bank in which 193 blood donors participated.

“I have donated blood for 38 times”, Dayananda said and further expressed that he has not faced any harm or trouble due to the repeated blood donation.

He then made an appeal to all to come out and donate blood so as to fulfill the shortage of blood requirement in the blood bank, adding that an average person between the age group of 18 to 60 years can donate blood in a year.

Dr Konsam Surjit Singh, In-charge, Blood Bank JNIMS, Imphal also asserted that the blood donation was being organized as a part of paying homage to Jananeta Hijam Irabot.

If such blood donation drives are organized once a week, the shortage of blood requirement could be met, Dr Surjit said and adding that the camp will help to achieve the target of National Voluntary Blood Donation for this year.

The Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal in association with AMSU today observed the 117th birthday anniversary of the Hijam Irabot with principal and vice principal of the school as president and chief guest, said a press release issued by the principal of the school. The students and teacher paid floral tributes to the martyr, said the press release, adding that a patriotic recitation competition was also organized, it said.
