IMPHAL, Sept 26: The North East Regional Review Meeting on the Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP) was today held today at Classic Hotel, Imphal, said a press release issued by K Moses Chalai, Commissioner (Co-operation), Manipur.

The meeting was chaired by Rajni Sekhri Sibbal, Joint Secretary, (C&DD), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India, it said and adding that the review meeting was attended by senior officers related to dairy development from the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

The press release said that the meeting reviewed the good and growing dairy industry in the North East Region particularly in the last 10 years.

The North East Region and the state hold huge dairy development potential and marketing scope. The growing production in the region still substantially falls short of the ever-growing demand for milk and milk products, resulting in substantial import of dairy products from outside NE Region, it said.

The meeting noted that concerted efforts by all concerned including IDDP will go a long way to further boost up production and dairying culture in the region while adding that the long term objective is that the region becomes self-sufficient and eventually even export someday.

Given the present trend, this could become a reality in the days to come. For this, the Milk Producers Cooperative Societies and farmers have a major role and responsibility, it said.
