IMPHAL, November 11: The death body of Chandam Momon, 63 year old vegetable vendor who was mercilessly murder for her valuable belongings, have been claimed by the family this evening after having conducted post mortem at the RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, the accused Ningthoujam Thoinu alias Heinu, 23, daughter of Kumar of Napet Palli Mamang Leikai, was remanded to 10 days police custody by the duty magistrate, Letkho Kipgen, yesterday.

It may be recalled that the partly decomposed body of Momon was discovered in her rented room at Napet Palli on November 8.

Before taking to her native place at Ikou, the lifeless body of Chandam was taken to Napet Palli wherein friends, well wisher and members of JAC converge and organised a mourning ceremony at Ikou Bazaar.

A brief protest was also staged wherein womenfolk bearing placards chanted slogan demanding befitting punishment (hanged till death) to the culprit.

Civil bodies like Chingtam Peace and Development Organisations (CPDO), Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Sawombung, Young Women Health Organisation (YWHO), Ikou Youth Club, Village Development Committee Ikou Bazaar, also attended the protest.

Expressing their concerned over deteriorating increasing crime rate, the CSOs urged the authority concerned to give the perpetrator the severest of punishment considering the gravity of the crime.
