JAC demands quick arrest of culprits

IMPHAL, February 4: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the the death of Laishram Sumila, representatives of several NGOs today staged a sit in protest demonstration and organised a rally at Kumbi bazaar, demanding to book the culprits who were involved in Sumila’s death .

The protestors displayed placards and banners which read “Book the culprits at the earliest”, “Award befitting punishment to the culprits involved in the killing”, “What is the fault of the young girl” etc. during the protest.

Villagers from Wangoo Terakhong Borayangbi, Khoijumantabi, Chairen, Tangjeng, Kumbi, Churachandpur and Thoubal also took part in the protest.

After having converged at Kumbi bazaar, the protestors also took out a protest rally till Kumbi police station.

A key member of the JAC told media persons that they will not claim the mortal remain of Sumila until the culprits involved is booked.

On the other hand, Bishnupur district magistrate has notified that it will dispose off the mortal remain of Laishram Sumila alias Echan, 10, daughter of L Amuthoi Singh of Nungoo Chandonpokpi Khongbal Leikai, if the deceased family fails to claim it by 4.30 pm tomorrow.

It may be recalled that Sumila was found dead on January 31 under Khuga Bridge in between Phaijol and Chonglankhong, Kumbi police station.

She reportedly left home on January 22 to gather their cattle and remained traceless until January 31.

Police suspected foul play as it has been reportedly that external injury was found on her body besides her undergarments were also reportedly manipulated.
